This year’s Chicagoland Aggie Muster Speaker is All-American Aggie kicker, Scott Slater ’88.

Scott was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University where he played on the Southwest Conference Champion Texas Aggie football teams of 1985,’86 and ‘87. He performed the placekicking duties for the Aggies; initially as a walk-on  and later earned a scholarship. Slater broke many school and conference kicking and scoring records receiving all conference and all- American accolades. Performing at a high level both on the field and in the classroom, Scott was also the named men’s academic representative for Aggie sports his senior year and was named GTE Academic All-Conference.

After graduating from Texas A&M in 1988, Scott became a United States Marine Corps officer. He graduated at the top of his pilot class and was assigned to El Toro MCAS, CA to fly F/A-18s. He excelled in the Marine aviation community earning designations as Tactics Instructor, Mission Commander and Landing Signals Officer.

After almost a decade, Scott left his active duty role as a Marine officer to pursue an MBA with a focus on finance at Vanderbilt University. After graduation, he spent the next decade on sales and trading desks with the investment banks Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley.

It was during these years Scott found he missed the world of aviation. So when the opportunity presented itself, he once again chose to embark to the skies flying jets. This time with passengers onboard and landing on concrete instead of on aircraft carriers. Scott flies the Airbus A321 for American Airlines.

He and his wife Karen (Class of ‘88) currently live in College Station where Karen works for the Texas A&M Foundation.
